Uses of Function keys
The function keys F1 to F12 in a keyboard are used in various ways according to the Operating system and the softwares installed in a computer.They may be used either individually or in combination with Alt and/or Ctrl keys. Since each key has a function, it is called function key. the function of each such key is given below.
F1 key
To open the help menu of a software, press F1
Pressing F1+windows key, opens the windows help centre.
F2 key
To rename a file or folder, press F2.
To open a new document in MS Word, press F2+Ctrl+Alt.
To open the print preview in MS Word, press F2+Ctrl.
F3 key
To search any file or folder, press F3.
To change the upper case letters into lower case letters in a MS Word document, press F3+Shift.
F4 key
To open find window, press F4.
To close a window within the working window, press F4+Ctrl.
F5 key
To reload or refresh a webpage, press F5.
To open the find and replace window in MS Word, press F5.
To start a slideshow in powerpoint, press F5.
F6 key
In MS Word, when two documents are opened, to switch over from the using document to the other document. press Ctrl+Shift+F6.
F7 key
For spellcheck and grammar check in MS Word, press F7.
To Know the Thesauras of a selected word in MS Word, press Shift+F7.
F8 key
To open the start up menu, press F8.
F9 key
F9 key is used to control brightness or volume (laptops) and to control BIOS setup program.
F10 key
To activate the menu bar of an open windows application, F10 is used.
To enter into CMOS setup, press F10.
F11 key
To maximise a window of a web browser, press F11.
To access the hidden recovery partition in some Dell computers, press F11 key.
F12 key
To open the Save As window in MS Word document, press F12.
To save a MS Word document, press Shift+F12.
To print a MS Word document, press Ctrl+Shift+F12.
